Norfolk County Sex Offender Registry
Norfolk County is home to roughly 700,000 residents spread across 28 cities and towns, and the county maintains a public sex offender registry through the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board. You can search for registered sex offenders in Quincy, Brookline, Weymouth, and every other Norfolk County community using the state's free online portal or by visiting your local police department in person. This page covers how the registry works, who must register, and where to get help.
Norfolk County Overview
How to Search Norfolk County Sex Offenders
The state runs the main search portal for Massachusetts sex offenders. You can use sorb.chs.state.ma.us to look up Level 2 and Level 3 registered sex offenders in Norfolk County by name, city, or zip code. The search is free and open to the public. Level 3 offenders are the highest-risk category and are all listed online. Most Level 2 offenders are also searchable online, though those classified before July 12, 2013 may only be available in person at a local police station.
Level 1 offenders are not shown to the public. The law treats them as lower risk, so their names and addresses are kept private. If you want to know whether someone is a Level 1 offender, you cannot get that through the public registry. Level 2 and Level 3 records are the ones you can look up. When you search by town in Norfolk County, you will see each offender's photo, address, physical description, and the offense they were convicted of.
The Sex Offender Registry Board, known as SORB, manages all of this statewide. Their main number is (978) 740-6400, and there is a toll-free line at 1-800-93-MEGAN. If you have trouble using the online search or need help finding a specific offender, SORB staff can assist you by phone.
Norfolk County Sheriff's Sex Offender Alert Program
The Norfolk County Sheriff's Office runs a program that goes beyond the standard state registry. Sheriff Michael Bellotti operates a Sex Offender Alert Program that lets residents sign up to get direct mail alerts when a Level 3 sex offender moves into their town. This is a free service available to anyone who lives in Norfolk County.
The Sheriff's website at norfolksheriff.com also keeps a list of Level 3 offenders in the county, broken down by town. You can check that list to see who is registered in your community. The Sheriff's Office is at 200 Village Drive, Dedham, MA 02026, and can be reached at (781) 329-3700.
When an offender is released from the Norfolk County Correctional Center, the Sheriff's Office notifies relevant agencies, including local police departments and SORB. This notification process is part of how the state ensures that offenders are tracked after release and that their registration stays current.

The Sheriff's alert program is one of the more proactive tools available to Norfolk County residents who want to stay informed about registered sex offenders near their homes.
Police Departments and In-Person Access
Every police department in Norfolk County can provide information about registered sex offenders in that town. For Level 2 offenders classified before July 12, 2013, you must visit the police department in person to get information. Bring a valid ID. Officers will pull up the record for you. You do not need a lawyer or a formal request form for this.
Key departments in the county include:
- Quincy Police Department, 1 Sea Street, Quincy, MA 02169 | Records: (617) 745-5777
- Brookline Police Department, 350 Washington Street, Brookline, MA 02445 | (617) 730-2222
- Weymouth Police Department, 540 Main Street, Weymouth, MA 02190 | (781) 335-1212
- Braintree Police Department, 348 Union Street, Braintree, MA 02184 | (781) 794-8600
For Level 3 offenders, in-person requests work the same way, but most people simply use the SORB online search instead since all Level 3 records are already public. The police can also tell you if any active notification is in effect for your neighborhood.
Note: Police departments handle registry access during normal business hours; calling ahead saves time, especially if you need records from a specific address or date range.
Community Notification in Norfolk County
Massachusetts law requires active community notification for Level 3 sex offenders. When a Level 3 offender registers or moves to a new location in Norfolk County, local police are required to notify the surrounding community. That can mean flyers, door-to-door notification, press releases, or posting information on the department's website. The goal is to make sure people near the offender know about the risk.
Level 2 notification works differently. Police may notify organizations in the area, like schools, churches, or community groups, but there is no door-to-door alert to all residents. If you are near a Level 2 offender, you can still find their information through the SORB search portal or by visiting your local police station.
The Sheriff's alert mail program described above supplements the standard Level 3 notification. It gives residents a way to receive alerts automatically without having to check the registry themselves.
Norfolk County DA and Sex Crime Prosecution
The Norfolk County District Attorney's Office is at 45 Shawmut Road, Canton, MA 02021, and can be reached at (781) 830-4800. Their website is nfkda.com. The DA's office handles prosecution of sex crimes across all 28 cities and towns in the county, including cases involving registered sex offenders who fail to comply with their registration requirements.

The DA's office works closely with SORB and local police to ensure that offenders who fail to register face criminal charges.
Failure to register as a sex offender in Massachusetts is a serious crime under MGL c.6 §178H. A first offense can result in up to five years in prison and a $1,000 fine. A second offense carries a mandatory minimum of five years. Norfolk County prosecutors actively pursue these cases, and local police departments in the county track compliance through annual in-person check-ins required under §178F½.
Sex Offender Registration Requirements
Anyone convicted of a qualifying sex offense in Massachusetts must register with SORB. That includes people who live, work, or go to school in Norfolk County. Registration is done through the local police department where the person resides. Under §178F½, Level 2 and Level 3 offenders must appear in person at their local police department each year to verify their information. Level 1 offenders and those who are unclassified may register by mail in some cases.
Offenders must report any change of address within two days. If someone moves from Quincy to Weymouth, they need to notify both departments. The same rule applies when someone changes jobs or stops attending school. The registry is only as useful as it is current, and the law puts the burden on the offender to keep their information updated.
SORB classifies each offender into a risk level based on their offense, criminal history, and other factors. The classification determines how much of their information is made public and what kind of community notification is triggered.
Victim Services and Support Resources
The Norfolk County DA's office provides victim services to people affected by sex crimes in the county. Their sexual abuse resources page at nfkda.com/sexualabuse.html has information about reporting, legal support, and referrals to counseling services.

Victims can also contact SORB's Victim Services line at 1-800-93-MEGAN or (978) 740-6440 for help navigating the registry or understanding notification rights. These services are free and confidential.
The Massachusetts law about sex offenders page on mass.gov covers victim rights in more detail, including the right to be notified when an offender moves into your area and the right to submit information to SORB during a classification hearing. If you believe an offender has been classified too low, you can contact SORB to raise a concern. The national sex offender registry at nsopw.gov is also free to search and includes offenders from all 50 states.
